Scholars
The Black Scholar Fund will be accepting applications from graduating high school seniors located in New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Delaware for the 2024 spring application. As well as from currently enrolled HBCU students for our fall 2023 application.
Undergraduate deadline: January 15, 2024
High School deadline: May 15, 2024

There are two applications. One for currently enrolled undergraduate students, and one for current high school seniors.
Upon submission, scholars will be considered for all awards for which they are eligible.

Amounts vary.
Yes. As long as the applicant meets eligibility requirements, they are welcome to apply.
No.
However, some donor-gifted awards will be considered for scholarship continuation. In this case, someone from The Black Scholar Fund will reach out to that scholar directly.
All winners will be notified by via phone call, email, and/or official letter via postal mail.
No.
All payments are made directly to your institution of choice through the office that processes external awards. Most often, the Office of the Bursar or the Office of Student Accounts.
Proof of enrollment will be required, from the scholar, prior to payment.

All scholarship payments will be dispersed between August 1st and August 31st of the awarded year.
Note: undergraduate winner's payments may be sent earlier.
Scholarship awards will be forfeited under the following circumstances:
- If the awarded scholar fails to acknowledge the award letter within 21 days of receipt
- If the awarded scholar fails to provide any requested additional documentation
- If the awarded scholar fails to meet the award criteria required for renewal (e.g., maintaining a specific GPA, continuing area of study, or unenrolls from an HBCU)
- If the awarded scholar no longer chooses to attend an HBCU
- If the awarded scholar fails to provide enrollment verification prior to August 15th of the award year
- If the awarded scholar fails to provide proof of acceptance, when requested
- If awarded scholar declines to receive the scholarship

Two-hundred and fifty dollars ($250) is the minimum amount that can be donated for scholarships.
Yes. It is a percentage that covers the in-house management of the award.

You don't have to donate a scholarship award to support The Black Scholar Fund.
We are always accepting general donations for any amount, which helps us cover the administrative costs of running a nonprofit. When you make a general donation we waive the administrative fee. Use this link HERE to donate.

The Black Scholar Fund will lead the process for receiving and reviewing applications, including the identification of external participants for the scholarship Selection Committee. Following an initial, quantitative, automated screening process, the Committee will review qualitative application details, determine the candidate(s) which best fit relevant scholarship criteria, and assign scholars an overall rating. Scholars with the highest scores will be chosen as recipients, based on the number of scholarships available. The scholarship recipients will be notified by June 30th via phone call, email, and/or official letter via postal mail. The Black Scholar Fund, Inc. will administer funding of scholarships to each of the Universities.
